We build innovative solutions to support our clients to make better decisions combining various forecasting methods and statistical models, and our online mapping platform (MAPP) to create bespoke solutions.   We are always looking to do things better.

About the Role

As our Chief Engineer you will be a key leader driving technical innovation, managing a high-performing engineering team, and ensuring Geolytix has the data platform it needs to succeed.

As a data engineer at Geolytix you will be

  • You lead a team of talented data engineers guiding and supporting them to unleash their full potential. You bring alignment, keeping the team working cohesively towards Geolytix’s goals.
  • You will have an important role in developing a strong team identity and championing Engineering throughout Geolytix; whilst ensuring the team’s role is agile and adapts to evolving trends such as AI.
  • You have the big picture and can efficiently allocate resources; balancing project demands and team workload for maximum productivity.
  • You keep an eye on the money. Making sure what we invest in our databases and cloud resources is spent smartly.
  • You work closely with the Heads of the Data Science and Mapp teams ensuring the engineering team is there to help bridge the gap, turning our forecast models into user friendly web applications.
  • You love collaboration. You work with everyone across Geolytix; understanding their needs. You write and deliver our engineering strategy, ensuring our data flows seamlessly from our clients, through our data teams into Mapp and our modelling tools.
  • You aren’t afraid to dive right in, helping to deliver client projects or making significant improvements to our infrastructure.

About you

  • You are a visionary with proven experience leading a data science or engineering team to success.
  • You know your stuff when it comes to database and cloud technologies especially Postgres.  You’ve worked with spatial data before and understand some of the quirks and challenges that come with it.
  • You have a broad experience with data engineering tools and processes. Pipelines, python, DevOps, setting up services via api. You are happy talking about it all.
  • You are a strong communicator. You excel at breaking down technical topics to resonate with technical and non-technical audiences. More importantly you are a great listener hearing what your stakeholders have to say and ensure that they are heard, and their needs are met.
  • You're not just up to date with the latest data technologies and trends, you're a trendsetter and you can ensure the team uses that new cool stuff to make our systems and processes better.

Your qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Geography, Geomatics, or related field.
  • You should have expertise in SQL and familiarity with spatial databases, along with proficiency in at least one of Python, JavaScript, C, Scala, or Java. 
  • You should be familiar with a cloud platform GCP, AWS or Azure. 
  • Experienced with GIS software and understanding of web technologies (ideal).
  • Not essential – you have relative experience with our client’s industries - retail, Banking etc.
  • You’ve worked in a role with stakeholders of different backgrounds and as a strong communicator you have the ability to work with colleagues remotely across the globe.

Our offices are in Leeds and Clerkenwell, London. The role can be located in either.  Competitive salary. We’re a young and growing company who embrace flexible working; full time or part time, family friendly hours and/or working from home days considered.
